Bedrock Wine Co. was started in 2007 by Morgan Twain-Peterson. Working out of a small converted chicken coop in a friend’s backyard, Morgan focused on making personality-filled wines wrought from a small array of thoughtfully farmed vineyards needs. The winery is first and foremost a mission-driven operation dedicated to preserving and rehabilitating old vineyards around California. These vineyards, planted by California’s viticultural pioneers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, are living pieces of history. Though oftentimes Zinfandel, these vineyards are also planted to Mataro (Mourvedre), Carignan, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grenache, Semillon, Gewurztraminer, Trousseau Gris and Riesling along with dozens of others.
Produced from vineyards often more than 80 years old, this Zinfandel combines ripe berries, spice and lively acidity in a style that feels generous without becoming heavy. Perfect with barbecue, char siew and grilled meats.

The largest single component comes from the old vines at Bedrock, followed by the perfumed goodness of Esola, the softer but fresh Schmiedt, and the peppery, dark-fruited Nervo Ranch. As usual, almost all of the wine consists of declassified barrels from vineyard-designated wines, so it offers serious bang for the buck. 85% Zinfandel with the balance a blend of Carignan, Mataro, Grenache, and Alicante Bouschet, along with esoteric creatures like Aubun, Abouriou, and many more. Predominately Zinfandel in the make-up, the composition of this mediterranean style blend also contains Carignan, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Barbera and Mourvèdre. The grapes are hand picked, native yeast fermented, aged in French Oak barrels (some new). Fresh and ripe and beautiful. A multi-vintage wine produced by Bedrock Wine Co.
Evangelho tends to have the finest tannins out of all the vineyard designate wines. The vineyard contains harsh winds that help retain the acidity. The result is a pretty wine. Distinctive, showing briary complexity, with deep and expressive smoky anise, black cherry, black olive and green peppercorn flavors that build toward refined tannins. As is typical for Bedrock, this wine has structure to match its dark red fruits, spice, and orange-tinged perfume. Composed of Zinfandel, Carignan, Mataro, and 27+ other varieties interplanted on the ranch, the wine was aged in a combination of larger format puncheons, demi-muids, and 228-liter barrels of French and Austrian oak.
