HOUSE OF ARRAS
Tasmania, Australia
Crafted in the pristine cool-climate regions of Tasmania, House of Arras represents the pinnacle of Australian sparkling wine. Established in 1995 by Ed Carr, one of the most celebrated sparkling winemakers in the world, House of Arras was born from a vision to create sparkling wines that could rival the world’s best — not just in style, but in depth, ageability, and regional expression.
The name Arras, meaning “rich tapestry,” is a nod to the intricate blend of terroirs that shape these wines. Grapes are sourced from six distinct regions across Tasmania — including Pipers River, Tamar Valley, Coal River Valley, East Coast, Huon Valley, and Derwent Valley — each chosen for their purity of fruit, natural acidity, and potential to age. Every vineyard block is managed with sparkling wine in mind, and only the finest fruit is selected.
What truly sets House of Arras apart is time. Wines are crafted using the traditional French Méthode Traditionnelle and undergo extended maturation on lees — from several years to over a decade — to build character, complexity, and a signature elegance. The Brut Elite NV showcases vibrant red fruit, subtle brioche notes, and a precise mineral core, while the Grand Vintage spends a minimum of nine years in tirage, unveiling layers of lemon curd, sourdough, malted barley, and field mushroom.
Ed Carr’s achievements have redefined the global perception of Australian sparkling wine. In 2018, he became the first and only non-Champenois to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships. House of Arras was also awarded Decanter’s Sparkling Wine of the Year in 2020 — a testament to the house’s unwavering pursuit of quality.
Today, House of Arras stands as a true icon of craftsmanship and terroir, producing wines that are uniquely Australian, unmistakably Tasmanian, and undeniably world-class.
