VINDEN WINES
Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia
Vinden Wines, formerly known as Vinden Estate, was founded in 1990, and is now under the guidance of second-generation winemaker and viticulturist Angus Vinden. All of their wines are handcrafted at the winery on Vinden Estate, with minimal intervention on-site, from hand-picked grapes.
Since taking over in 2015, Angus has maintained the original label, Vinden Wines, which possesses a traditional Hunter Valley style as well as producing his offshoot label allowing a more experimental approach The Vinden Headcase - balancing tradition with innovation.
In 2020, Angus’ The Vinden Headcase Experimental Release saw the beginning of a life long photography project. As an avid photographer, during lockdown Angus decided to capture a self portrait to represent the 2020 vintage. Over the years, you’ll be able to line up all of the bottles and see how he ages both as a man, and evolves as a winemaker.
His unique winemaking styles have crafted what wine critics have said is the best young winemaker not only in the Hunter Valley and across Australia. His award-winning wines are unique, elegant and perfect for the multi-ethnic cuisine in Singapore.
This wine was inspired by a trip to Beaujolais. This light, crisp, perfumed style of Shiraz was sourced from our Vinden Vineyard planted in 1995 over red clay soil and Tawarri Vineyard in the Upper Hunter. 10% whole bunch, 90% whole berry in open concrete fermenters, hand plunged, basket pressed and aged for 4 months in neutral French oak barrels. Enjoy it now or on a hot summers day serve it chilled with a straw.
Fresh but full of flavour, this is what modern Hunter Chardonnay should taste like. Lovely richness, citrus and orchard fruits. A wine that has elegance and purity of fruit with hints of lees stirring and a slight creamy texture.
This wine is a vibrant modern Hunter Shiraz with fine tannin and dark fruits. The blocks were planted by the Howard family in the 1960’s & 70’s on red volcanic clay soil, over a limestone hillside in Pokolbin. Made in traditional methods: cold soaked; fermented wild (10% whole bunch) in open concrete fermenters; hand plunged and aged in French oak Foudre and Puncheons for 11 months.
Pokolbin Blanc is a blend of multiple varieties, with some fermented on skins, some in stainless steel, Spanish clay amphora and some in neutral French oak to build complexity, weight and texture. This funky little number is light, fun and delicious.
This delightful single vineyard Chardonnay from Hunter young-gun Angus Vinden hails from their Somerset Vineyard. Another quality wine from Vinden - the fruit shines through with support from oaky spice and creamy texture. A gorgeous single vineyard Hunter Chardonnay with plenty of creamy texture and oaky spice.
This wine was an experimental batch for the 2021 vintage, but now a staple of the winery. This funky little Gamay blend of is light, fun and delicious. Enjoy it now or on a hot summers day serve it chilled with a straw.
This Shiraz was sourced from our Somerset vineyard, and Tawarri Vineyard in the Upper Hunter. Made in traditional methods: cold soaked; fermented wild in open concrete fermenters; hand plunged and aged in neutral French oak. The wine is a vibrant modern Hunter Shiraz with fine tannin, and red and blue fruits. Drink now or any time over the next 10 years.
The wine shows the character of the old vines; concentrated citrus fruit, refreshing acidity and delicate minerality. Great early drinking, however patience will be rewarded with cellaring up to 15+ years. Purity of fruit is the name of the game.
Sourced from our Somerset Vineyard. The block was planted by the Howard family in 2007 on fine clay loam soil, the fruit was hand picked, whole bunch pressed and juice transferred directly to large format seasoned French oak, where the wine underwent barrel fermentation. During the eleven month èlevage, bâtonnage was conducted to build creamy texture to support the fruit and subtle oak spice.

Sourced from two famous Semillon vineyards. Trevena Vineyard, planted in 1920 on sandy loam soils, these unirrigated vines are situated on Hermitage Road Pokolbin, and Somerset Vineyard in Pokolbin, planted in 1969 on sandy clay loam. Picked in early February, the wine shows the character of the old gnarled vines; concentrated citrus fruit, refreshing acidity and delicate minerality. Great early drinking, however patience will be rewarded with cellaring up to 10+ years.
Sourced from Inglewood, Somerset, Vinden & Tawarri Vineyards across the Hunter Valley. This wine was my favourite to make for 2021, multiple ferments were blended together to create a delicious, dry, textural rosé. Fermented in stainless steel, concrete eggs, seasoned French oak barrels and given extended lees contact.
Elegant, aromatic with lychee and rose water, with great texture. The wine comprises two different components- the first spent five days on skins before being pressed off to a Spanish clay amphorae and neutral French oak. The second spent 36 hours on skins before being pressed and fermented on solids in the tank.
The fruit was cold soaked on skins for 36 hours before being pressed off and fermented on solids in tank. The wine was allowed to go through partial malolactic fermentation in neutral French oak, where it underwent élevage. Elegant, with texture, bright baked lemon and a crisp orange undertone, with round tannic structure that alludes to classic Fiano.
